Chakra Healing Therapy Guide

The Energy Generating Centers Connecting The Body To The Universe

FIRST CHAKRA

Located at the perineum and the base of the spine, the first chakra, or root chakra, reigns over the vicinity of the sex organs, including the vagina and penis, as well as the prostate (for men), bladder, lower bowel, and anus. This energy center is crucial for reproduction, procreation, elimination, sexuality, and sexual identity. Hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone correlate with this chakra.

This chakra stores and produces an immense amount of creative energy—the energy that creates life. It provides grounding for the body, serving as the survival aspect of our system that connects us to Mother Earth.

The body parts connected to this chakra include the legs, feet, bones, large intestine, and teeth. The sense of smell is also linked to the first chakra.

Foods that nourish this chakra are primarily proteins. Eating is an essential activity for the first chakra, so consuming wholesome foods helps build a healthy foundation in this energy center.

Healing sounds for this chakra include "O" (as in rope) and Lam. Essential oils for chakra balance, which benefit this chakra, include sandalwood, patchouli, grounding, and ylang ylang. To truly heal and master the first chakra, one must fully accept, nurture, and love their body to the very core.

SECOND CHAKRA

Located just behind and slightly below the navel, the second chakra balances the ovaries, uterus, colon, pancreas, and lower back. It governs consumption, digestion, elimination, and the processes involved in breaking down food into energy through digestive enzymes and hormones that help regulate blood sugar levels.

This chakra is closely related to social networks, community, relationships, family, and cultures. It embodies the energy for holding on or letting go, such as the processes of consuming and eliminating. When this chakra is balanced, one feels safe and secure in their perception of the environment. Foods that fortify this chakra include water, juices, and broths.

Healing sounds for this chakra are "Oo" (as in "due") and Vam. Essential oils for chakra balance that assist in healing this chakra include sandalwood, patchouli, sage, and YL Acceptance. As Anodea Judith, Ph.D. states, “Pleasure and emotions are the root of desire. Through desire, we create movement, and through movement, we create change.” This is the essence of the second chakra.

THIRD CHAKRA

The third chakra, located in the center of your gut, regulates the adrenal glands, kidneys, stomach, small intestine, spleen, liver, and gall bladder. It manages hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, along with digestive hormones and enzymes.

This chakra is linked to willpower, determination, and self-esteem. When balanced, individuals can leverage their will to overcome negative perceptions of their environment and bodily conditions. To heal and balance this chakra, one should focus on viewing their surroundings from a space of love, allowing it to relax and restore.

The sense of sight is connected to this energy center. Foods that nourish the third chakra include starches, which convert into energy and relate to the fire element. Healing sounds are Ram and Ah (as in the word 'father'). Essential oils for chakra balance that can benefit this chakra include fennel and juniper. The third chakra plays a vital role in transforming the earth and water energies of the lower chakras into the power of digestion.

FOURTH CHAKRA

Often referred to as the heart center, the fourth chakra is located in the chest. It governs the heart, lungs, and thymus gland, producing essential hormones that are crucial for growth, repair, and regeneration.

This heart chakra is where love, nurturing, gratitude, and compassion are felt—the core of our soul. When balanced, we embrace life, care for others, and seek to contribute positively to the community. The sense of touch is associated with this chakra, and nourishing foods include vegetables, which represent the fusion of sunlight energy with earth, air, fire, and water. Healing sounds for this chakra include Lam and Ay (as in "play"). Essential oils for chakra balance that can enhance the fourth chakra are sandalwood, bergamot, and rose. Here, we connect to spirit, move through it, and engage with our reality.

FIFTH CHAKRA

The fifth chakra is located at the center of your throat, regulating the thyroid, parathyroid, and saliva glands. The hormones linked to this chakra help manage calcium metabolism and utilization.

This chakra centers around expressing the love we experience from the fourth chakra, focusing on conveying our truths without fear. When balanced, we communicate with love, clarity, and honesty. The sense of hearing is tied to this energy center. Foods that nourish this chakra consist of fruits, which are harvested without harming plants or animals. Healing sounds for this chakra include Ham and Eee, while essential oils for chakra balance that can benefit this chakra are sandalwood, rose, and eucalyptus. This chakra is essential for communication through sound and creativity, enabling us to connect and transcend physical limitations.

SIXTH CHAKRA

The sixth chakra resides in the area between the back of the throat and the back of the head, also referred to as the center of the brain. It regulates the pineal gland, also known as the third eye, which serves as the gateway to perceiving other realms.

When this chakra is awakened, it can unlock miracles as a person releases fears and trusts their spiritual intelligence. Stimulation in this chakra prompts the pineal gland to become the master alchemist, producing hormones like serotonin and melatonin. An open sixth chakra brings balance to the mind and enhances overall brain function, allowing for deeper insights and meaning. The sense of sight, hearing, and even smell connect to this chakra.

Foods that nourish this chakra are often blue or purple in color, and as one connects with higher energies, the need for food diminishes. The healing sound common to both the sixth and seventh chakras is "Om" (as in "mmmm"). Essential oils for chakra balance that can be beneficial for the sixth chakra include jasmine, carrot seed, Melissa, chamomile, rose, and clary sage. This chakra allows us to master our perception of the world.

SEVENTH CHAKRA

The seventh chakra is situated in the center of your head, encompassing the pituitary gland, known as the master gland. This gland regulates harmony with the pineal gland, thyroid and parathyroid glands, thymus gland, adrenal glands, pancreatic gland, and sexual glands. This chakra embodies our connection to divinity, and when balanced, we harmonize with everything.

Foods that nourish the seventh chakra resemble those for the sixth channel, focusing on blue and purple fruits and vegetables. The healing sound for this chakra is also "Ohm.” Essential oils that may benefit this chakra include fennel, clary sage, lemongrass, and rosemary, among others. This chakra is essential for managing hormonal messaging across the body.

EIGHTH CHAKRA

The eighth chakra manifests approximately 16 inches above the head and is not connected to any specific physical body part. Instead, it represents our connection to the spiritual universe. When balanced, individuals feel worthy and gain insights into spiritual truths, enabling miracle manifestations and healing. This chakra allows access to information from the greater quantum field or spiritual source.

No specific foods nourish this center, apart from water fasting. Healing sounds are not needed for this chakra; instead, silence and a peaceful mind promote its health. Essential oils that may benefit this chakra include Cistus, rose, spikenard, hyssop, and frankincense. The eighth chakra focuses on opening oneself to spiritual information and the love that accompanies spiritual energy.

I include chakra readings and balancing during my Reiki sessions. ❤️ Occasionally, I teach Reiki levels 1, 2, and Master levels, along with lessons on how to read and balance chakras.
